Vegetarian Restaurants in Milan

If you think Milan is all about heavy meat dishes and rich cheeses, think again. The city has quietly built a solid vegetarian scene that even locals rave about. You’ll find everything from hearty risottos and freshly made gnocchi to inventive veggie burgers and vibrant salads throughout neighborhoods like Navigli and Isola.

One of my favorite go-to spots is Joia, near Piazza Piola. Chef Pietro Leemann has been crafting creative vegetarian dishes long before it was trendy. The flavors are bold yet delicate, and the atmosphere is surprisingly relaxed for such a high-quality spot. And if you’re wandering around Chinatown by noon, grab a vegetarian bao or some steamed veggie dim sum at one of the small stalls,you’d never guess it was meat-free at first bite.

Keep in mind, Milanese menus often blend vegetarian and vegan options, but it’s always smart to ask since some places sneak in parmesan or other animal products. Oh, and try visiting in autumn when local markets brim with fresh mushrooms and chestnuts, perfect for a seasonal vegetarian meal. I promise Milan won’t leave you hungry, even without the meat.
