If you’re spending time in Milan, skipping the city’s bakery scene would be a mistake. It’s not just about cornetti here,they take their baking seriously. You’ll find everything from flaky sfogliatelle to rustic panettone, and breads that smell like the early morning sunshine.

I’ve always loved popping into Panificio Pattini near Porta Genova. Their focaccia is a revelation, especially just out of the oven. And in Brera, there’s a small spot called Pasticceria Marchesi, which has been around for ages. Try their almond biscuits with a strong espresso if you want to feel like a local.

One tip: come early in the morning when the shelves are freshest, especially on weekends. Some bakeries close mid-afternoon, so timing matters if you want that perfect croissant or a slice of torta. And if you spot a crowd outside, that’s usually a good sign. Milan’s bakery game is strong, but knowing where and when to go makes all the difference.
