Iyo must do better. I booked several weeks in advance, expecting the restaurant to live up to its reputation, but left disappointed. We were seated on the terrace during a heatwave. Although I'd requested an indoor table, none was available, so we made the best of it. The real issue, however, is that the experience outdoors is completely different from what Iyo is known for. Inside, the restaurant is elegant, polished, and delivers impeccable, white-glove service. Outside, the atmosphere feels far more casual, closer to a pub than a fine dining restaurant - despite serving the exact same menu. The only standout was the sommelier, who was knowledgeable and excellent. Otherwise, the service and overall experience fell well short of expectations. Guests should be made aware that dining on the terrace is a fundamentally different experience before confirming their reservation. If the menu and pricing reflected a more relaxed setting, it would make sense. As it stands, it simply wasn't the experience I had expected.

I tried the 2026 tasting menu. Hit or miss, not as creative as I expected, and somewhat pretentious for what it is, but decent overall. I was surprised to like the dessert more than anything else. The staff is very courteous.

Iyo is, without exaggeration, one of the most impressive Japanese dining experiences I’ve had in Europe. As far as I know, it is the only ethnic (non-Italian) restaurant in Milan awarded a Michelin star, and after dining here, it becomes immediately clear why. From the moment you step inside, you are transported into a completely different world. The atmosphere is refined, elegant and immersive — it genuinely feels like stepping into Tokyo, not Milan. Every detail, from the design to the service, is executed with precision and respect for Japanese culture. The food is simply extraordinary. Every dish is built around freshness, simplicity and perfect balance — exactly how Japanese cuisine should be. Nothing is overcomplicated, nothing is forced. Just pure, clean flavours executed at the highest level. The Wagyu beef is exceptional — tender, rich and perfectly cooked. The toro nigiri is absolutely unforgettable, melting in your mouth with incredible depth of flavour. And the nigiri topped with foie gras… truly on another level. A bold combination, yet executed flawlessly — indulgent, balanced and simply breathtaking. What makes Iyo even more special is the ability to surprise you beyond expectations. I had, for the first time, a wasabi ice cream — something I would have never imagined enjoying this much. The balance between spice and freshness was incredible. The basil-forward dessert was equally surprising, intense and beautifully crafted. These are the kind of dishes that leave a lasting impression and redefine what you think you know about flavours. Service is impeccable — attentive, precise, and deeply knowledgeable, without ever being intrusive. Every recommendation feels thoughtful, every detail carefully considered. Iyo is not just a restaurant — it is a complete culinary journey, where technique, ingredients and creativity come together at the highest level. It’s the kind of place that leaves you speechless and makes you want to come back again and again. A truly unforgettable experience and, without doubt, one of the finest Japanese restaurants in Europe.

Incredible restaurant in the heart of Milan. As someone who has been to a lot of high end restaurant's. This was up there as probably top 2. Sushi was delicious and fresh. Incredible flavours. Beautiful restuarant too. Stunning interior. Credit to management and the chefs. Grazie! Will be booking twice on my next visit to Milan.
