Review Title: Good Experience in Brera, But Not Quite What We Expected We were looking for a more local dining experience in the Brera district and found Osteria Brunello highly recommended, including by AI suggestions mentioning that locals frequent this restaurant. We made an 8:00 pm reservation and were welcomed by friendly and attentive staff throughout the evening. As dinner went on, however, we noticed that almost everyone around us was speaking English, and it felt more tourist-oriented than we expected. We were automatically given English menus as well. This is not meant negatively at all, but part of our joy in traveling through Italy has been trying to learn and understand the language ourselves. We honestly would have enjoyed being given Italian menus first and figuring things out on our own. The menu was straightforward with a decent variety of choices, including chef’s specials highlighted on the menu. The food was good overall, but nothing particularly memorable compared to many of the wonderful meals we’ve had throughout Italy. It was enjoyable, just not a standout experience for us personally. That said, Milan is a beautiful city and we’ve truly enjoyed the food scene here. Others may absolutely love Osteria Brunello, but for us, it’s probably not a place we would return to on a future visit.
Wonderful lunch for our first day in Milan. The service was good, fast and accommodating. Had their signature Milanese risotto with ossobuco which was flavorful and not too salty! The parmigiana was the best, so delicious. The tiramisu was good too. Seems like many locals frequent this restaurant.
Amazing food, huge portions, and a great atmosphere! We sat outside, which was so nice for people-watching as the crowds passed by. The meal started off strong with fresh bread and top-notch olive oil. For the main course, we ordered the traditional La Cotoletta di Vitello alla Milanese (breaded veal cutlet Milanese style, served with tartar sauce, cherry tomatoes, and an oregano dressing). It was incredible—perfectly crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, and massive! I paired it with a side of roasted baby potatoes that were beautifully seasoned.
Just excellent. One meal and we ticked off Milanese classics. Service, food, and location are excellent. Prices are totally reasonable! Only minor point is that the waiter could've alerted us to the fact our first dish of risotto is also the side of the main. It was excellent (twice), but I'd have tried a different one for a first.
One of the best experiences I had in Italy. They make perfect Milanese food: here you can find the traditional dishes from Milan and they are in their best version, I’m sure. The staff were very friendly and they designated a Brazilian person to get our order, it was really nice. I know that this is not necessary (of course) but it was a really good coincidence hehe
