San Vittore, Milan
Discover one of the most important science and technology museums in Europe and explore the Leonardo Galleries with an expert guide. This is the largest Leonardo permanent exhibition in the world.
Explore the National Museum of Science and Technology in Milan with a guided tour of the Leonardo da Vinci Galleries.
Opened in 1953, the museum is one of Europe’s largest science and technology museums, located within the cloisters of a Renaissance monastery. It spans over 50,000 square meters and features permanent exhibitions, digital installations, and educational labs covering astronomy, space, energy, materials, transport, food science, genetics, biotechnology, and particle physics.
The museum displays unique objects such as steam trains, trams, the Toti Submarine, the Luna Rossa AC72 catamaran, the brigantine schooner Ebe, the deck of the Conte Biancamano transatlantic liner, a full-scale model of the Vega space launcher, and the only lunar rock fragment in Italy.
This guided tour focuses on the Leonardo Galleries, the world’s largest permanent exhibition dedicated to Leonardo da Vinci as an engineer and humanist. The exhibition traces Da Vinci’s development from 15th-century Florence, influenced by Tuscan engineers, to his time in Milan under the Sforza family.
The tour explores themes including military technology, work and production, flight, waterways, architecture, and Da Vinci’s impact on Lombard Renaissance painting. It concludes with an immersive installation showcasing drawings from the final period of his work. The exhibition covers more than 1,300 square meters and includes around 170 historical models, artworks, antique volumes, and installations.
