Description

A simple graffiti or an ambitious mural can be much more than just urban decoration — it can become a powerful driver of cultural and urban regeneration. With our expert-guided walking tour, you'll go “on the hunt” for the most creative, meaningful, and inspiring street art works in one of Milan’s most transformed districts: Ortica. This tour takes you deep into Ortica, a once-isolated neighborhood shaped by a network of viaducts, railway tracks, and the winding course of the Lambro River. Historically working-class and somewhat forgotten, Ortica has undergone a radical transformation over the last decade — from industrial fringe to the first open-air museum district of Milan. At the heart of this transformation is the Or.Me. Project (Ortica Memoria), a monumental urban art initiative by the local artist collective Orticanoodles. Through over 20 large-scale murals, the project tells the collective memory of Milan — its heroes, workers, musicians, activists, and forgotten figures — in vibrant color and powerful imagery. Each mural is not just a painting, but part of a larger community storytelling project, created with the involvement of local residents. The result is a living museum of murals that speak to history, identity, and hope. During this immersive street art tour, your guide will take you through the backstreets and hidden alleys of Ortica, revealing the evolution of graffiti and street art in Milan, from underground rebellion to recognized cultural form, the different techniques and styles used by today’s street artists, the stories behind the murals — from anti-fascist partisans to jazz legends, from factory workers to feminist icons, the social and cultural impact of the Or.Me. Project on the local community Along the way, you’ll learn how public art is redefining neighborhoods, inspiring change, and making Milan more colorful, dynamic, and alive. Milan may have been called a gray city — but through street art, it’s becoming a canvas of stories, colors, and transformation.
